Fall '07 Top 10 Shopping List

Shopping every season is fun, but replacing your entire wardrobe every 3 months isn’t realistic. We believe the key to keeping in style without blowing your budget is to incorporate just a few new key pieces into your wardrobe each season to freshen it up.

We’ve researched the top trends this fall and compiled an easy shopping list for you! In no particular order:

1. The Wide Leg
Guess Sapphire Trouser Pants, $90ish

Unlike summer’s skinny jeans, the wide leg trouser or jean can be worn by anyone and doesn’t require a stick thin figure. Look for pants that skim the bum and let out slightly at the bottom.

2. The Over-sized Bag

What woman doesn't love a ginormous bag? Some may think we’re ridiculous toting around 10lbs of, er, important stuff every day, but the over sized bag trend ensures room for all of it. Need a sweater for the evening? Throw it in the bag. Running late and have to do your makeup in the car? Not a problem! Your entire makeup kit will fit nicely in that huge bag.

Colors to watch for this season are charcoal grey, dark brown or black with patent accents.

3. Shiny Shiny

Shiny has been around for a couple of seasons and it isn't going away any time soon. Invest in a pair of this must have booties, a shiny pair of pants, a sparkly sweater or a silk charmeuse blouse.

4. The Sweater Dress

A look that flatters nearly everyone, the sweater dress can be worn over jeans or with patterned leggings, and boots. Cinch it at the waist with a belt or just add a simple long necklace.

It is important to invest in a good quality sweater. A cheap blend involving acrylics and other low end materials will have you inhaling fuzzies, getting them stuck on your pants, pilling and static cling.

5. The Low Heeled Tall Boot

Get the best of both worlds! The sophisticated look of the tall boot with the comfort of a low heel. Tuck your jeans in or wear them with a skirt. They always look fabulous and you can walk in them to work or school without killing your feet!

6. The High Waist
Club Monaco High-Waisted Mini Wool Skirt, $129

We post this trend with the following caution: You must have a relatively flat tummy to pull this off. You don't have to be super skinny, but if you carry extra weight around your middle, give this look a pass as it could make you look heavier.

This look works really well for women with small waists to accentuate an hour glass figure. When done properly it is very sophisticated.

7. Blue Nails
OPI Nail Polish "Blue My Mind " , $5.50ish

Spring ushered in jewel tones and blue is going to stick it out for another season. Indigo, electric blue or navy are your best bets for this trend. Keep nails short and well groomed or you'll just look like you got your hand slammed in the door.

8. The Scarf
Urban Outfitters Lurex Plaid Scarf, $20

The scarf is the perfect accessory to add a punch of color to a neutral outfit while protecting your neck from the cooler fall temperatures. Try a western style scarf like this one or throw on a long knit scarf. Wrap it once around your neck and let the ends hang loose in the front.

9. The Belt
Wide Croco Print Patent Leather Belt, $14ish

Wear them skinny, wide or tie them on the side; the belt is worn around the smallest part of your waist, cinching it tightly to add instant 1940s Hollywood Glamour. The belt creates an hour glass effect.

If you are short waisted, stick with thiner belts. If you have a long waist wear whatever you want, lucky girl!

10. Sponsor a Charity

Giving back is always in style. Why not spare a few bucks on someone in desperate need? Sponsoring a Child in an impoverished country will run you about $30 a month, but satisfaction with this purchase is guaranteed.

However, we understand that not everyone can afford to cough up extra cash so here’s an idea that requires no funds whatsoever: Donate your gently used clothing. A simple Google search for your city will give you a list of local charities more than willing to accept your donations. Some will even come and pick them up. Read more about this.
