Weekend Movie Recommendation: Amelie

Last night the Mister went out with friends, and I saw this as a welcome excuse to watch a girly movie. I realized after looking around Blockbuster for 20 minutes that the pickings were rather slim, so I chose an old favorite.

For those of you who, inexplicably, have not yet seen Amelie, you are missing a real treat! This French film stars Audrey Tautou (recently seen in The Da Vinci Code) as a waitress who spends her time fixing her friends' lives, but eventually realizes that she needs to change her own. Her zany adventures are hilarious and endearing, and her own love story is the stuff chick flicks are made of.

This movie reminds me of Emma in its plot and uses a similar narrative style as The Royal Tenenbaums. If you loved either of those movies, you will adore Amelie!



Heads up: the movie is in French, but has subtitles.

Weekend Movie Recommendation: P.S I Love You

This is such a beautiful story and done so well you will love it. At a minimum you will want to visit Ireland. Hillary Swank is adorable, Gerard Butler is a Sexy Beast and Lisa Kudrow does what she does best. Be prepared to bawl like a baby. Thankfully there are also plenty of cute funny moments that more than make up for the sad parts.

Toronto Chicks Night Out: Sex and the City Movie

We finally have the details! Let me tell you, this flick was HARD to get into! It seems we all want our fix and therefore getting tickets to this is was as painful as a first time Brazilian!

We tried to get a group discount but due to the popularity of this film, those will not be available until at least two weeks after the release, and that is no fun. So we have scored 50 tickets to the opening night on May 30th plus a round of the signature SATC drink: The Cosmo. These tickets are guaranteed. There will be some prizes and swag and the first 35 ticket holders will get some extra swag love from Garnier. Here are the details:

Date: Friday May 30th 2008

Time: 6:50pm (come for 5pm to get a good seat as it is rush seating and we will be handing out swag and prizes at that time)

Location: Cineplex Scotia theatre 259 Richmond Street W. We will meet at the theatre bar on the 2nd floor at 5pm. Drinks will follow the movie screening.

Tickets: $20 each. Includes 1 movie ticket, 1 cosmo, some free swag and the chance to win some prizes.
